Fruit of Kalape

Kalape Fruit by you.

In our province Northern Samar has Philippine rattans with edible fruits:
The fruits of Limuran or Kalape (Calamus ornatus var. philippinensis) and litoko (C. manillensis) and their utilization in the Philippines are described. The flavour is sour or semi-sweet: in limuran the juice is sucked out; in litoko the whole fruit except the seeds is eaten and may be pickled also when you touch the skin it feels like snakes skin;it looks like snakes skin too. Litoko is cultivated in the Mountain Province of northern Luzon where 3 varieties [not specified] are recognized.
